Manetti Loose Leaf / Surface Leaf
For over 400 years, Manetti Gold Leaf has embodied the pinnacle of Florentine craftsmanship, where fifteen generations of mastery transform molten gold into luminous leaf through a legacy of tradition, innovation, and uncompromising quality. A book of Manetti Loose Gold Leaf—also known as Surface Gold Leaf—is carefully assembled by placing each delicate sheet of gold between interleaving pages of thin, lightly rouged paper. This traditional packaging method protects the fragile metal while allowing the gilder to lift and handle a single leaf at a time without disturbing the remaining sheets in the book.
A book of Loose Gold Leaf, also referred to as Surface Gold Leaf, is assembled by placing each piece of gold leaf between pieces of thin rouged paper. The Gilder can then remove one gold leaf at a time without distributing the remaining leaves. It is removed from the book with a gilder's tip, a flat natural-hair brush. Each booklet contains 25 leaves and comes in packs of 20 books for a total of 500 leaves. Leaves are available in different measurements and thicknesses. Loose leaf can be applied with water or oil gilding techniques and is ideal for restoration and detailed surfaces.
