For over 400 years, Manetti Gold Leaf has embodied the pinnacle of Florentine craftsmanship, where fifteen generations of mastery transform molten gold into luminous leaf through a legacy of tradition, innovation, and uncompromising quality. Gold Leaf in roll form—also known as Ribbon Leaf—is created by laying individual sheets of loose gold leaf onto a continuous length of lightweight paper with slight overlaps. Unlike Patent Gold Leaf, which is pressure-mounted to tissue, ribbon leaf is adhered to the backing paper using a light wax coating applied during the rolling process. This construction allows for efficient, continuous application while maintaining control over the delicate metal.
Standard Manetti master rolls are approximately 67 feet in length and cover approximately 22 square feet without waste or overlap. Rolls are typically 104 mm (4-1/8 inches) wide, and any width up to 100 mm can be custom cut from master rolls on special order. Each roll is assembled by placing 4-1/8 inch square leaves along the paper with an approximate 2 mm overlap, creating a continuous ribbon of gold for streamlined application.
