Gilders Pads (Cushions)
A gilding cushion, also known as a gilders pad, is a soft suede-covered foam surface used when cutting, trimming, or preparing loose metal leaf. The cushion provides a stable, non-slip working area that supports the use of a gilding knife while protecting the delicate leaf from damage during handling.
Many gilding cushions feature a rear plastic shield designed to block air movement that could disturb the extremely lightweight loose leaf. The shield can be folded down for convenient storage or transport, making the cushion a practical and essential tool for both studio and on-site gilding work.
